Pace tables for men's world record paces

These tables show the times that popular track and road world record paces would yield for other distances.

Men's 100m World Record

9.58 - Usain Bolt

Bolt ran a speed of 23.35 mph or 37.58 kph, a pace of 2:34 mins/mile or 1:36 mins/km, to set his 9.58 seconds world record. His top speed would have been reached at somewhere between 40 and 60 meters mark. The record was set at the 2009 World Championships, and beat his own previous record of 9.69 from exactly a year earlier at the Beijing Olympics.

Justin Gatlin actually ran the fastest 100 meters ever, in a time of 9.45. However, this does not count as a world record since he was helped along the way by gigantic fans blowing him along. It was just a bit of fun for a Japanese TV.

The table below lists finish times for popular race distances if they were run at Bolt's 9.58 world record pace. It also shows the current men's world record time for each distance, and the difference between 9.58 seconds/100m finish time and world record time.
